NZSL :)

As you may know, we have tech on Wednesdays, so while we are back at school we focus on something different every week or 2 weeks, as you should know this week is signed language week. We have been learning lots of different things about sign language. Here is the NZSL alphabet...

We learnt the alphabet, how to say our name and lots of different other things. We used this website to learn our sign language, you can use this to learn NZSL for yourself :)

We also had to make a video of us signing our name but unfortunatley it wouldn't upload to my blog.

Dreams

 Kia Ora Bloggers

This week we have gotten a few topics and we had to research one of them, I chose to research about dreams. I have learned a lot about dreams doing this, like how you have up to 4 - 6 dreams each night but only remember some of it! or depending on your mood before you go to sleep affects what your dreams about, if you are frustrated you are more likely to have a dream about you falling, failing, or getting attacked.

Here is the doc:

ISS :)

 Kia Ora Bloggers

For the last few days in Gillstrom literacy we have been focusing on the ISS (International Space Station), we watched this video so we could get a good understanding of it. The purpose of the ISS is to bring research and answers about the satellites. While we were watching the video we wrote down some notes that could help us write a timeline, this is the timeline that I made.

My timeline explains what happens during the years in the ISS

Our next task was to create our own module on an ISS world on Minecraft, I chose to create a kitchen so the people in the ISS can sit down and eat their food also because they don't really have anywhere that they can just relax. As I was writing this I realised that if they sit on a seat they will float up in the air so they might have to have seatbelts or something to keep them on the seat. Here are some screenshots of my module.

I hope you liked it :)

The Southern Lights

Kia Ora Bloggers,

In Maori, we have been looking at Matariki and the southern lights/ aurora's, today we started a piece of art to do with these lights. Here are some facts we have learnt:

The name Aurora comes from the Latin word that means sunrise or the Roman goddess of dawn.

An Aurora is a natural light that appears in the sky, usually, the colour is green but can sometimes be either blue or red.

The natural light usually occurs in the 'aurora zone' near the arctic poles, the north and the south.

Aurora is caused by the collision of energetically charged particles with atoms in the high altitude thermosphere within our atmosphere.

Auroras are associated with the solar winds that flow past Earth. These winds flow out from the Sun and contain plasma particles (ionized gas) which gets pulled into the Earth's magnetic pole fields.

As they accelerate towards the Earth, collisions occur between these ion particles and nitrogen and oxygen atoms in our atmosphere, releasing energy in the form of amazing aurora lights.

For our piece of art, we started off by ripping a piece of paper to make our hills, we taped that on hand flicked white paint onto make the milky way. Next, we used chalk pastels and drew on the white paper in a pattern with our choice of colours. Afterwards, we used different fingers to spread the pastel to create the lights, after everything has set you use light yellow paint to create the Matariki stars and you are done!

Here is how mine turned out:
